Books, A Love Letter
Life-long friends, co-partners in adventures, travel companions and sick day comforters. My books are memories, collections, inspiration and ideas. They move from house to house with me, living in stacks and piles and towering shelves. My favourites, never too far away. Pages worn, dust covers lost. Colourful, cheery bookmarks poking their heads out of the pages I return to time and again.
Most of my books are second hand. Found in triumph and thrifted and reborn as treasured eggs in my nest. Vintage books on nature that smell of old cupboards. Their delicate yellowed pages delight me, the carefully hand drawn flora and fauna dancing through the chapters. Big, proud, coffee table books. Shiny statements, adorned with inspiring artists like Frida and Dali. Small and strange books. Exotic and esoteric. A dictionary of demons, its bizarre illustrations sourced from all over the globe. Unexplained mysteries. Crystal skulls, crop circles and ghosts. My books are eclectic extensions of me.
The rest of my books are gifts from my love. Treasured and special, these books cluster around my desk and my bed. Big, thick, juicy tokens of love. Full of illustrations that make me smile from ear to ear. Full of words I pour over with intrigue and awe. You know which books truly delight me and I never tire of being passed a heavy, rectangular package with a kiss and a whisper of, “happy birthday, love.”
I am blogging everyday in September, inspired by Effy Wild of www.effywild.com who is doing the same! Please check out her blog - she's awesome! And if you want to join in too, do leave a link to your blog in the comments and we can read along with each other :-)
