Pele // The Tower

The Tower (The breaking down of outworn values, freedom from old possibly self-imposed restrictions. Sudden disruptive change that will make you a better and stronger person) depicted as Pele.

Of the Hawaiian religion, Pele is the goddess of fire, lightning, wind and volcanoes and the creator of the Hawaiian Islands. Often referred to as "Madame Pele" or "Tūtū Pele" as a sign of respect, she is a well-known deity within Hawaiian mythology, and is notable for her contemporary presence and cultural influence as an enduring figure from ancient Hawaii.

Pele was fun to paint! I was in quite a bad mood and feeling angry when I started and I think I managed to translate that into the painting quite well! I love the dramatic effect of this painting and enjoyed creating the fire - is Pele on fire, or the fire? ;-)
